Great for snorkeling, taking a kayak tour across the bay to the Captain Cook monument is highly recommended (reservation required). Strenuous but rewarding, you might pass spinner dolphins on the way.

TAKE WATER OR DON'T GO! The part between 5 and 7 is steep and the way back is pretty hard.

Amazing snorkeling and a beautiful monument to Captain Cook. A bit of damage from the earthquake. Get there early to avoid crowds.

Hike down for a dip, but save some energy for the hike back up. The numbered markers on the trail are spaced every 0.25 mile.

Hiking down to Captain Cook's can save you $100/ person. Taking a boat can save you a 2.7mi uphill climb.

Come at dawn or late afternoon to try and spot the dolphins. Then keep on 160 to the Pu'uhonua O Honaunau State Park

Take a tour with the kona boys! They bring a lunch, the guides are really knowledgable, and the coral is beautiful. You'll kayak across the bay to the captain cook monument and snorkel there.

Best way to view dolphins is to sit and float, they will approach you. If you swim towards them, they will swim away.

Dolphins around 7-9 am and 5-7 pm. Snorkel in from the bad, it's sandy and easy around 12 noon. Just watch for the weather. There is a nice coral grove out 20 meters all the way out to the rocks.

Rent a kayak from Ehu & Kai up the hill- local business and they are full service, from lifting and securing to launching, and he even washes the sea water off your roof.
